Graphic Edition
Jennifer Maestre, who should change her name to Jennifer "Maestro", has created these fantastic sculptures out of pencils.
Acccording to herself she took "hundreds of pencils, cut them into 1-inch sections, drill a hole in each section (to turn them into beads), sharpen them all and sew them together."
Either she had way too much time on her hands, or just happened to be an incredibly talented art freak. I think it was the freaky art that did it.

Whoa ... pretty disturbing objects, I think. Nothing I would want to have, actually. But the idea is ... freaky. :)

I kind of like it. They look like certain types of sea creatures or coral covered formations. Somewhat bizarre but unique. My kid would take it apart in two minutes though.

What interesting art your kid, Milena, could make rolling one of these things around in your living room: "pen art art". :)

I'd love to buy one of those. But at >100 for the small one its a bit too much. Maybe ill have to make it myself instead

Awesome artist. Greenpeace used a few of these to promote a campaign. Look for it on our site if you're interested.

Did anyone else notice the phallic one? Next to the yonic one? Because I did.

I appreciate the unique use of pencils as an art medium. It always amazes me when someone sees something special in mundane objects. Many of these remind me of sea creatures. It's inspiring. Makes me want to look at everyday things from a new perspective. What else am I overlooking because I haven't taken the time to see with understanding?

Unique use of a common object. Don't think I would buy any but isn't that what makes the world go 'round!
Nancy Louise - Sep. 29, 2008
The medium becomes the subject studied for the art is a very modern interpretation of a contemporary idea. What makes it so unique is she taking what is 3-D and primarily used to create 2-D and turning it into a sculptural form all by itself. I love the yellow Sunflower one. All of them are fantastic, I wish I could afford a few or even just one...
Awesome!

It would be even better if the sculptures used the old & discarded pencils. A cool way to reuse, repurpose, recycle.

They are beautiful!

It obviously takes a great deal of time and attention to detail to make these! It's an interesting idea but I'm not that taken by them for some reason. I usually like unusual things or usual things used in an unusual way, but while I respect the work to make them-just not my thing I guess. I think some of them would look even better if the pencils were painted black then the colors of the lead would really pop! I'm sure the artist won't have any problem getting buyers for these, for while they may not have a mass appeal, I know there is probably a large audience who love them!

I love them! Who would have thought such a plain item could be used in such a beautiful way! I am so inspired by what other artist come up with!
