There is one story that keeps popping up about Wired Magazine reporting that 26% of their traffic is now coming from the iPad. A truly amazing number. But there something odd about it. I'm not seeing that anywhere else. So I did a little digging.
It turns out that the story originated from this article on Wired, but the finer points about it, seems to have been lost as it was being republished and retweeted on the web.
What Wired is actually saying is that 26% of their mobile traffic comes via the iPad, not 26% of their total traffic. If you compare the iPad traffic to the total amount, the iPad only accounts for 0.91%
This makes a lot more sense. It is exactly what I am seeing here on baekdal.com. The iPad accounts for 27% of my "mobile traffic," and 0.87% of my total traffic.
It is still quite impressive. The iPad has surpassed the Android in mobile browser traffic. A big deal considering that there are far more Android phones on the market than iPads.
Almost every time a news site launched something new, they also cover the same stories the same way.
